The village is 760 meters above sea level, at the point where the upper flow of the rivers Alfios and Evrotas is formed. One of the river sources – today called the “Pisso Vrissi” – supplies water for the village population which according to be 1991 census, numbers 180 people.
The location of the village is a little removed from the national highway and seems to be the reason it has escaped the “modernization” which entire Greek rural region underwent during the dictatorship gears (1967-1974) with the irrational use of cement, iron and aluminum. The village preserved its tile-roofed houses as they were abandoned because of lack of money and because of immigration to the USA and to urban centers.
