Economy

Today the village residents cultivate the earth and raise goats and sheep. The government funds granted to farmers and the European Union plans have contributed to the preservation of the rural economy and to the upgrading of the means of its production. The majority of farmers and shepherds of Doriza are people advanced in years. The younger people work at the electricity producing factory of the town of Megalopolis or they have created their neglected vineyards in order to produce the yearly supply for family use.

Dotiza People

In Doriza one can find pure honey, home raised chickens and eggs, home made hilopites and trahana (both made from milk, eggs an flour and both having sustained the population over the many difficult times). There are also “mironia and kafkalithres”, the exquisite wild grown greens with unique aroma that grow in Doriza. There are two places where people meet to have a cup of coffee or a glass of “ouzo” and chat or even eat: the cafenio of Panos Lymperopoulos an the “Taverna tou Yiatrou (The Doctor’s Tavern) where one can taste the deliciously prepared specialities by the doctor, Kostas Lymperopoulos.
