According to the information found on the website of Ellis Island, the people of Doriza appear to have entered the USA at the beginning of the 20th century, especially during the first decabe when the immigration reaches its peak. The answer to “why this happened” is found in the following excerpt from the newspaper “Guard of Kalamata” on the 19th March 1900:

Μετανάστες

« Every day boats full of poor people, every day boats full of small Greek children, of young girls, of sisters, of women and even of old people, leave our unfortunate country in search of their bread, their peace and security honor in a foreign country. Thousands leave every day because they have nothing-nothing whatsoever and they cannot tolerate being hungry even though they acres of land and big properties which they are not able to protect; they leave because they want to know that they are free people living in the 20th century, that there are laws to protect them. As a result Greece is being devastated day by day, the unfortunate Greece who needs bodies and hearts, is deserted, always a lave, always feeble, always anguished.
