The Sacred Gospels A book containing the story of two gospels dating from the 19th century which belong to the temple of the Holy Prodromos of Doriza as well as the works of their preservation and restoration, was published on the initiative of the “Citizens of Doriza” and in collaboration with the Hellenic Society for Bookbinding. |

The book was presented by the president of the Hellenic Society for Bookbinding Mr. Babis Legas at the church of Holy Prodromos of Doriza, on March 27th 2005. The first Gospel of the Holy Prodromos was published in 1860 in Venice by Saint George’s printing house, founded by the Italian publisher Antonio Filippi. It is part of the publishing effort on restoring the ecclesiastical texts to their original form without any alterations or errors, an effort that had already started since the end of the 18th century. Bartholomaios Koutloumousianos, who was a scholar priest-monk from Imvros and who played a significant part in the spirit of renewal of that time, has looked after the texts of the Gospel.
