History
Antiquity

At a distance of three klm west of Doriza there lies an ancient settlement with its acropolis named “Paliohora” (old town) by the people of Doriza. It was inhabited at about 700 b.c. but we have no knowledge of what race lived there and what kind of civilization was developed. The archeological pickaxe has not as yet reached the area although in 1937 archeologists from Sweden conducted some sample research during the excavations in the area of ancient Assea.

Within the limits of the community of Doriza, towards the “Manareiki Vrissi” (Springs of Manareiki) which is south-east of the village, are located the ruins of pottery and sculpture workshops which supplied with pottery the cities of Assea, Alea, Paliohora, Marythea and others. Workshop ruins similar to the Manareiki ones are also behind the “Talaganeiko Hani” and next to the Tsameika vineyards. Both of these locations have not been excavated yet.
