Doriza is mentioned in the memories of Fotakos in 1824 when he writes about “Panos Kolokotronis (son of Theodoros Kolokotronis) who along with his few companions spent the night in the friendly and trustworthy village of Doriza” at the time when the civil war had flared up and he was pursued by the Executive Power
whose president was Kountouriotis.
When the national revolution of 1821 broke out the people of Doriza were among the first to get whatever ammunition available and fight heroically and with self denial the Ottoman Turks.
Many people from Doriza, under the orders of their captain Bacoyiannis, fought at Valtetsi and for the capture of Tripolis. In 1825 in the battle of Maniaki, 27 people from Doriza showing incomparable courage and self denial, fought side by side with Papaflessas and sacrificed their lives for the superb ideal of the honor of their country.
Among them we have the names of Zaharias Birbilis, P.Karahalios, I.Nikolopoulos, G. and A. Tsakanikas, Batitsas and Kopeliaris.
