History
Modern ages

The village with the name “Doriza” is reported in the census that Venetians had done for the villages of Morias in 1690. They locate it in the area of Paliohora a little above where the small county chapel of Saint Nicolas lies. At a crucial point of Greek revolution of 1821 against the Ottoman Empire, the legendary Theodoros Kolokotronis – the so called “Geros tou Moria”- sent his written message to the “people of Doriza, Manari, and Kadreva” asking them to join the struggle for the liberation of the nation.

Doriza is mentioned in the memories of Fotakos in 1824 when he writes about “Panos Kolokotronis (son of Theodoros Kolokotronis) who along with his few companions spent the night in the friendly and trustworthy village of Doriza” at the time when the civil war had flared up and he was pursued by the Executive Power whose president was Kountouriotis.

When the national revolution of 1821 broke out the people of Doriza were among the first to get whatever ammunition available and fight heroically and with self denial the Ottoman Turks.

Many people from Doriza, under the orders of their captain Bacoyiannis, fought at Valtetsi and for the capture of Tripolis. In 1825 in the battle of Maniaki, 27 people from Doriza showing incomparable courage and self denial, fought side by side with Papaflessas and sacrificed their lives for the superb ideal of the honor of their country. Among them we have the names of Zaharias Birbilis, P.Karahalios, I.Nikolopoulos, G. and A. Tsakanikas, Batitsas and Kopeliaris.
